program, without having to re-enter these parameters each time
the program is run. The Configuration System consists of 1
main screen, and 4 secondary screens which allow the user to
readily edit All of the parameters.
For a view of the Main Screen, see Figure 17.7
The Secondary Screens and the parameters they access are
described below:
1.) The System Parameters Screen includes:
- Company Name.
- Program File Path.
- DOS Utilities Path.
- Menu Text Color.
- Menu Background Color.

Configuration Menu - The Main Screen contains a menu which
provides access to all of the Configuration parameters, the
menu items and parameters they access are described below:
17.7.1 System Parameters Entry - The following is a description
of the System parameters and their defaults if any. See
Figure 17.7.1 for the layout of the System Parameters Screen.
Company Name - Name of Company using the program - this
name is printed on the top of all reports and show up on
most major screens.
Program File Path - This must be specified in order for the
program to operate properly, especially if a file is to be
viewed on the screen. Also if the program uses Overlay
files, this must be correct before the program will run.
Must contain the Drive specifier and the Path if any.
DEFAULT: \
DOS Utilities Path - This must be specified in order for
the program to allow the user to perform Backup & Restore
procedures from within.

Menu on the Main Screen to determine if the colors
selected for the menu are acceptable.
Text Color - Numeric value of the color for Standard text.
DEFAULT: mono: 15 color: 14

support, such as: PRINT.COM (TSR), SPOOL.COM, etc. then
this parameter must be set to YES for Internal support by
the program itself.
DEFAULT: YES
Use Numeric Keypad - Determines if the Num-Lock key is to
be turned ON automatically by the program upon start-up.
This is particularly useful on computers without a separate
numeric keypad and Cursor control cluster to ease data entry.
DEFAULT: YES

CHANGE CONFIGURATION - Continued.
17.7.2 File Maintenance Password - Password used for access to
the File maintenance menu of a program, if no system
maintenance function exists then this password also allows
access to the System configuration utility.
17.7.3 Maintenance System Password - Password used for access to
the System maintenance menu of a program, if used, allows
access to the System configuration utility, seperate from the
file maintenance function.
NOTE - The passwords entered ARE CASE SENSITIVE
(e.g. "password" <> "PASSWORD" <> "Password" <> "pASSWORD", etc.,
Password = Password). The entry is done using the double
entry method, if the two match, then the password is saved
in the Configuration file. If they do not match then the
password is saved to the Configuration file as a Null String
(No Password). The passwords will NEVER be displayed on the
screen at any time during entry for security purposes, this is
the reason for Entry and Validation.
17.7.4 Printer Parameters Entry - The following is a description
of the Printer parameters and their defaults if any. See
Figure 17.7.4 for the layout of the Printer Parameters Screen.
Printer Path - This is the Path to the External Printer
Support Program (e.g. Print Spooler), Such as:
"D:\PRNTR\PRINT.COM" DEFAULT: no command.
Printer Command - This is the command that is passed to the
external Program containing the filename to be printed and
any flags/switches to be passed with it. E.g.: "%F /P"
%F is the location where the filename of the file to be
printed should be inserted in the command line.
DEFAULT: no command.
Printer Device - This is the Device String which indicates
the Logical printer Port to be used by the program for
printing of its reports. Valid printer device strings are:
"LPT1", "LPT2", "LPT3", or "PRN".
The device string should be entered without the Quotes and
No colon should be entered following the device string.
DEFAULT: LPT1
Default Report Length - This is the value used by the
printer support module when printing all reports, it is the
number of lines per page. This value should be calculated at 6
lines per inch. E.g. 11" paper equals 66 lines.
DEFAULT: 66
CHANGE CONFIGURATION - Printer Parameters Entry - Continued.
Use Form Feeds - This value determines whether the Printer
module should write Form Feeds to advance to the next page
or use line feeds to advance to the top of the next form
according to Default Report Length. Also after printing a
report, if Use Form Feeds is True, then the paper will be
advanced to the top of the next form, so that it is ready
for the next report to be printed.
DEFAULT: Yes
Write Initialization String - If some specific initialization
string should be sent to the printer before printing the
reports, then set this parameter to: Yes. Common Init.
strings include: Enhanced Print, Emphasized Print, 12CPI, etc.
DEFAULT: No
Use Condensed Print - If printing of wide reports (e.g. 132
col.) is desired on standard 8.5" x 11" paper then set this
parameter to: Yes, and the printer support module will
automatically initialize the printer with the Condensed
Print Init. Code. If you are using wide paper (14 7/8" x
11") to print wide reports, then set this parameter to: No.
DEFAULT: No

Printer Error Codes - See the Section: DETERMINING
PRINTER ERROR CODES before initializing the following
Codes.
Off Line Error Code - This is the Code returned to the
computer by the printer when it is Off Line.
DEFAULT: 0
Out of Paper Error Code - This is the Code returned to the
computer by the printer when it is Out of Paper.
DEFAULT: 40
Not On Error Code - This is the Code received by the
computer when the printer is Not On.
DEFAULT: 200
Not Connected Error Code - This is the Code received by the
computer when the printer is Not plugged into the computer.
DEFAULT: 48
17.7.5 Init. Printer Codes - This is the standard code that is
sent to the printer each time a report, etc. is to be printed.
Any standard features that are desired for printing; such as:
enhanced printing, emphasized printing, 12 CPI, 15 CPI, NLQ,
etc. should be enabled by entering the printer specific print
codes in this code string.
17.7.6 Reset Printer Codes - This is the standard code that is
sent to the printer each time a report, etc. is finished
printing. Any features used in the above code string should be
cancelled with the appropriate reset codes, also you can do a
Form Feed here to avoid using the: Use Form Feed parameter.
17.7.7 Condensed Print Codes - If Condensed printing is desired
for for wide reports on narrow paper, then place the
appropriate printer code here to invoke Condensed Print Mode.
17.7.8 No Condensed Print Codes - If Condensed Print is secified
then the appropriate reset printer code should be entered here.

the needed character sequence. E.g. ESC ! would be entered
as: 27 33
Editing Keys for code entry are the same as Ptool Ent, with
the following exceptions:
- After each Code Press <ENTER> except after the last code.
- After the Last Code Press <F2> to save codes entered.
- If the code or codes are entered Incorrectly Press <ESC>
to disregard codes entered.
